If you find it hard to fit routine tasks into your busy working week, then you may be thinking about using a dry cleaning service to deal with some or all of your laundry. Many dry cleaners now pick up and deliver orders, so you don't have to find the time to go to the cleaner's store to drop off and pick up. While dry cleaning delivery frees up your time, you need to pick the right one for your needs. What should you think about before signing up to a delivery service?

What's On Offer?

Dry cleaners that deliver offer a variety of services. While all offer dry cleaning pick-up and delivery, some also provide other options, such as:

  • Shirt services: Some dry cleaners wash shirts for you; others will wash and iron.
  • General laundry: Some cleaning delivery services take on general laundry as well as dry cleaning. Typically, this involves washing and drying; however, you may be able to arrange to have some of your clothes ironed as well.
  • Household cleaning: Dry cleaners that deliver are often happy to add larger cleaning jobs to their schedules, such as quilts, blankets, doonas, sheets, pillowcases and curtains.

If you think you'll use a delivery service for more than dry cleaning, then look for a dry cleaner that does everything you need. This keeps your pick-ups and deliveries to a minimum.

How Flexible Is the Service?

While dry cleaning delivery services save you time on dropping off and picking up your own cleaning, they can sometimes eat into your time in other ways. If you have to be at home for a pick up or delivery at a time that isn't really right for you, then you'll get frustrated.

Look for delivery services that operate at hours that suit you. For example, if you always work late and are never at home during weekdays, then choose a service that drops off into the evening and at weekends.

If work sometimes gets in the way of you getting home on time, then choose a service that can change pick-ups or delivery at short notice. If you're often called away on business trips, then a service that can do a short-notice dry clean or launder outside of its regular schedule may also be useful.
