Asbestos is a terrible material that has caused the death of thousands of people and severe health issues for many more. You can never be too careful when it comes to asbestos, as it doesn't take much of that fibrous material to get into your lungs before you suffer real consequences. However, most people mistakenly believe that asbestos is only ever found in houses, usually as insulation. That is just not true, and this belief can get you into trouble if you aren't careful. Here are three places where you should always be on the lookout for asbestos.

Old Storage Facilities

If you are cleaning out any old storage facilities, whether that be a warehouse or just a self-contained unit, you should be on the lookout for asbestos. While you probably won't find friable asbestos, which is just another word for loose asbestos, you might find bonded asbestos in other materials. For example, roofing tiles, waterproofing, cement, sheets of insulation and many more materials may once have contained some form of asbestos that you should be careful around. If you have no idea how old the storage unit is, and don't know the exact contents, you might want to call for an asbestos removal expert just so they can test it out and be safe.

Old Sheds And Lean-To's

Asbestos was commonly used in building construction across the country for several years, and that doesn't just include houses and commercial businesses. Many sheds in the backyard or lean-tos on farms contained some element of asbestos. Now, when people are tearing down these old buildings to make way for new projects they don't wear any protection because they have no idea that they are exposing themselves to asbestos. Always get these older buildings tested, no matter how sure you think you are about their contents.

Older Cars

You might not have realised this but asbestos was prevalent throughout many automobiles in everything from the brakes to the interior decorating. If you are going to try and renovate or restore an old car, you might want to get it checked out by an asbestos expert first. That way, if there are parts containing the fibrous poison, you can avoid them or get them professionally removed. While restoring these old classics to their former beauty is a fun and rewarding hobby to pursue, it is not worth risking your future health and wellbeing over it.
